Are you named after anyone?

Oh this is a fun one. So, the name I picked for myself after coming out as trans comes from the character Ellie Williams, from The Last of Us. I almost named myself 'Emma', after the Japanese name for Lady Timpani from Super Paper Mario. My deadname, which I won't share for obvious reasons, comes from... I think my great grandpa? I'm not 100% sure. Something like that. And my dad almost gave me the name Jean-Luc, after Picard, y'know, Star Trek, or Jean-Claude, after Jean-Claude Killy (although I suspect this was just a failed cover story to try and convince my mom to go with Jean-Luc).

Favorite subject in school?

Probably the classes where we just got to fuck around with computers. But if I had to give an actual answer, probably math or physics? If we include university, probably the classes I took on VR, UI design, and product design, or the cognitive science class I took that was about the intersection between cognitive science, society, and popular technology.

Dream job?

Honestly, anything where I'd get to apply my interests in both technology and internet media. Whether that's working on software for streaming, working as an editor or a writer at a tech YouTube channel, working at a video or livestreaming platform like Twitch or YouTube... Alternatively, maybe working on VR software or hardware? Just as long as I'm making a good income, working on something I'm passionate about, and with time to spend on my hobbies.

The Guidelines

Both platonic and romantic dynamics are accepted and encouraged!

You can reference or include Addam's wife, or you can ignore her! Up to you :)

Please avoid significant age gaps / grooming for the comfort of all participants.

Adult content (sexual/violent/traumatic) is fine, but do tag/warn appropriately.

Background ships/dynamics are great - just make sure minoade are the focus.

Some Notes

"Meta Gimmicks" refers to anything about gameplay (originally it was "Gameplay Gimmicks") that brushes up against the fourth wall; ex. characters' flexible knowledge of their damage/stats, skill/weapon names, calls back or forward in ~ludonarrative~ elements.

"Monster AU" includes the subgenre of "Minoth with extra features" such as horns or equine legs; in other words, the "monster" component need not exist in a wholly alternate universe evocative of halloween horror, but instead can build onto the inherent horror elements of Minoth's status as a Blade and Flesh Eater. Too, mermaid/centaur/vampire can give you some inspiration, here.

For "Fusion AU" the intent is for entries to feature a proper fandom fusion - say, Star Trek in specific, rather than space odyssey at large. A Zelda fusion would perhaps contain some elements of Fantasy, but should be adequately differentiated. Including characters from either fandom in the fusion is fair game - whatever helps you paint the setting.

I didn't include a space for death/bereavement, but that can of course fit within several of the other prompts related to such abstract endpoints of life. Please, feel free to embellish and improvise just about as much as you wish.

Sharing Work

I will not be creating a separate Tumblr for this event; however, I post sparingly enough on my main Tumblr, here @dukeofdumbass, that I intend to simply reblog entries here. On Twitter, I will be sharing the event announcement on my variously-pruned main Twitter @dukeofdumbass and retweeting entries on my former bot (I cleared my crontab before it was cool ;) @floraminoade. To keep things consistent, the event tag will be MinoadeMay, in CamelCase, on both Twitter and Tumblr. Please @ mention either/any of my accounts to make your participation clear. Favorite Star Trek novel? :)

I haven't read any of them I just go into internet archives or type 'free preview' and then scour for references to Tuvok 😔 'Pocket Full of Lies' has a VERY funny title and a lot of Tuvok in it - from the snatches & snippets I've read it seems like I'd enjoy the Tuvok-Janeway stuff from it...one of Tuvok's sons is killed in a borg invasion and Tuvok bonds with alternate universe(?) Janeway over their shared parental grief.

As he's absolutely WAILING on a guy who he killed ALT Janeway's kid he says "This is all evil comprehends, this is its native tongue." to Chakotay who's trying to pry Tuvok off the guy and get him to calm down. I really love that scene there's a real sense that this is the final straw, the last bit of cruelty and sorrow he can endure: Here's some snippets from it 'Pathways' has a lot of Tuvok characterization in regards to his early life that I consider canon whenever I write him but it's not a book centered around him and I can glean most of the info that's in there from the free previews so I'm not that interested in actually purchasing it. Hilarious detail that his parents do NOT tell him about the pon farr - Tuvok's parents are so funny. Things they've done according to canon and books: Told him his pet sehlat didn't have a soul so he wouldn't see her after he died, Disowned him and sent him to a temple, Signed him up for Starfleet without his knowledge because he got too into temples, Didn't tell him about the Pon Farr. 'The First Virtue' is one I just stumbled across and it's one I actually would like to read because it seems to have a lot of Tuvok in it!! There's also apparently a scene where he and Jack Crusher (Bev's husband) have to get naked in a bath together in order to gain some villain's trust???? Tuvok. You can't keep - this can't keep happening. Tuvok is also introduced like this:

Tuvok. You are an ENSIGN!!!!!! He's an ENSIGN and he comes onto this ship and is like "I don't do pleasantries. Call a meeting." then leaves AHEAD of the captain!!! TUVOK!!!! I like him so much <3 I often struggle with making Tuvok seem 'younger' without making him seem like it's not Tuvok and this is perfect to me. He has such a personality <3 Beverely Crusher also describes him as 'bland yet arrogant' if I remember correctly and she is sooo correct. <3

[1. Earth-61610 has an artstyle mostly inspired by comic books of the 1970s and 80s. Everything and everyone has lineart, which makes a point of depicting imperfections like cracks in concrete or seams in superhero costumes. Shadows are always either solid blacks or halftones, depending on how deep they're supposed to be. Colors are very flat and lack most of the subtle variances that they might have in the real world. When color gradients are seen, they're depicted through Ben Day dots. Speed lines, afterimages, and Kirby dots are all in-universe effects.]

[2. Most of 'em! The entire premise is that it's Marvel As Written By Me. The main character is Peter Benjamin "Specs" Parker, who's married to Mary Jane Watson; most of their supporting cast is there, in one way or another. Honestly, it's barely a spidersona at all, but shh.]

[3. The spider that bit Specs was actually a hybrid of like six different species, only three of which I've set in stone. His spider bite contained genes from the giant house spider, the fringed jumping spider, and a folding trapdoor spider dubbed Hexura rothi. The other three I haven't fully decided on, but they're probably in the Agelenopsis, Cupiennius, and Araneus genera.]

[4. New York City, babyyyyyy! It's set in our era, usually about three years behind the real world, but because of its alternate history and the presence of superheroes its technological level is advanced somewhat beyond ours. And because I deliberately try to make its political landscape mirror real life's, it's something of a cyberpunk lite.]

[5. Nope. He was invited, because he's a version of Peter Parker with a backstory fucking loaded with Canon Events™️, but after he got the entire explanation of the Society's purpose he turned them down. Emphatically. And rather vulgarly.]

[6. Web-shooters 100%. But Specs' version of web fluid is partially made of several of the proteins in genuine spider silk; he used his independent lab time in college to genetically engineer a yeast sample to produce them, and to this day keeps that yeast in a jar like a sourdough starter. Those proteins are combined with inorganic polymers to form a synthesis with the exact properties he wants. When it comes out of the web-shooter, Specs' weblines are much smoother than the webbing from the comics or movies, and by default they have a diameter of 2 millimeters.]

[7. No :( he lives in a no-pets apartment. He'd like a cat someday, but that won't happen until he's got kids.]

[8. He's the only Spider-Person of his dimension right now. There are going to be many, many more in the future, starting with Mayday and Annie Parker, both of whom are sticking to walls within hours of being born. Their superhero careers will coincide with Miles', and after they all retire Miguel will take up the mantle. Spider-Island is gonna be Miguel's problem. I might work Jessica Drew and Anya Corazón in there somewhere, but haven't committed to that.]

[9. The list is way too big to get into here. But just off the top of my head, Earth-61610 doesn't have Star Wars or Star Trek, and there are a lot of buildings and cities that don't exist in the real world. Godzilla is real in 61610; Atlantis isn't. Some heroes from 616 aren't in 61610 just by virtue of me not giving a shit about 'em. Others are being bumped down the timeline so they don't exist now but will eventually.]

[10. This is a slippery question, and not one with an answer that he's comfortable with. Specs believes that there are absolutely people who deserve to die; he believes that sometimes keeping someone alive will harm more people than just killing them now would; he believes that treating certain people with mercy is a vile insult to people that person has hurt in the past. But he doesn't believe that any of that gives him the right to kill people. He's one guy. A vigilante with anger issues. An opinionated little bundle of trauma and spite who answers to no one. If he gives himself license to start snapping necks, he doesn't trust himself not to find fainter and fainter justifications to do it going forward. When he was a slightly younger man, slightly more sure of his stance on "good" and "evil," he used to pick fights with allies all the time about their own willingness to kill. Nowadays, as often as not, he tends to just shut the fuck up.

Y’know, I’m appreciating the abundance of Spider-Sona tag games recently- so I’m gonna be making my own here! Only 10 questions because I don’t want to go too wild with this one- or else we’d be here all day!

What artstyle is your Spider-Sona’s world? ( For example, Gwen’s world is watercolor, Hobie’s world is inspired by punk art and punk album covers, etc. be creative! )

Do any characters that appear in the 616 or 1610 universes appear in your Spider-Sona’s world? If so, who and how are their roles different? ( For example, if Hobie Brown is in your universe, is he still the Prowler? Is Peter Parker in your universe? )

Is there a specific species of spider your Spider-Sona was bitten by, or was based off of? ( Can’t think of any specific canon examples here- but I’ve seen a lot of Spider-Sonas based off wolf spiders for example! )

What city and what time period does your Spider-Sona live in?

Is your Spider-Sona in the Spider Society? Were they ever asked to join but declined? Were they not scouted at all? Did they join and then quit? Tell me all about it!

Does your Spider-Sona have organic webbing, or do they use web-shooters? Mix of both? And is their webbing typical spider webbing, or does it have a style to it? ( For example, Miguel’s webbing being red and presumably digital. )

Very important question here- do they have any pets? And if so, do they ever take them out on their crime fighting missions?

Are they the only Spider-Person in their universe? ( For example, Miles and Peter co-existing in the Insomniac Games )

Are there things that exist in their universe but don’t in others? ( For example, Comic Con existing in Miles-42’s universe but not in 1610 Miles’s! Or certain Marvel superheroes existing in their universe but not others. )

And lastly ( For now will probably make a few more of these… honestly I could make one daily but I don’t wanna bother people lol ) what does your Spider-Sona think about killing criminals… and their general approach to crime.

Season 2 wasn’t the happy little escapism show I thought it would be. Got myself a new Neil Gaiman book to take the hurt away. (Yes new to ME, not in general. I’ve been saving the rest of his works for when I really need it).

Family Headcanons-

This is going to be a long one matees,I'm doing this per ship, then found family stuff and some of the families. And when I say family this isn't just kids and marriage, it's co-habitation and holidays and days off and dinners. Let's go!

Spirk- They do get married, they have a bonding ceremony and a Jewish wedding and go on their honeymoon for 2 weeks exploring ancient civilisations. But I'm conflicted about whether they have no kids and just be fun uncles or have loads of kids (5+) via adoption, surrogacy and genetics labs.

Spones- They too get married (a bonding ceremony, a Christian ceremony and a Jewish ceremony) but I think that they just support Joanna and act as father figures to everyone. They also have that academic husbands aesthetic

McKirk- They don't get married, for them they got close within months and don't think marriage can add anything. They don't have kids but they have pets, horses, dogs, cats, frogs, snake-spider combination from a far off planet.

McSpirk- They do get married, having 3 ceremonies, and have 3 homes, their townhouse in San Francisco, their farmhouse in Georgia and their home on New Vulcan. They have either have 3 kids that are alternating combinations of their genetics, or one kid with all 3 of their combined genetics

Scuhura- They get married, he wears a kilt, obviously. But, they don't gave kids, instead they welcome the roles of Aunt and Uncle.

McScotty- They have a small wedding but no kids, they're already the parents of the Enterprise!

McChapel- They're like the perfect stereotypical family. They have a fun, romantic wedding, their honeymoon is a mixture of adventure and relaxation. I have an idea for a post on how trans* surgeries could go in the star trek universe but the jist is that Christine has had a permanent womb transplant (all organs are replicated and the patient's genetic info is put into the cells so no immunosuppressive drugs are needed) and has the necessary genetic info put into her eggs and then used for IVF. They have 3 kids, a boy named Isaac David McCoy, a girl named Tallulah Dawn McCoy and a boy named Finn Leonard McCoy. I'll stop there because I could go on for hours 😂

Those are most of my ships so here's the found family goodness!

Bones and Scotty are the parents of the Enterprise, Bones is the "Mum" and Scotty is the "Dad"

Bones helps the main 7 via cooking and they end up making a whole Afternoon Tea feast because they're all feeling terrible

Once Jim gets resurrected and discharged, the crew all sleep in each other's quarters for a month minimum

If any crew member feels left out during the holidays they find anonymous presents and cards on their bed

Chekov is the baby and always will be

Sulu pretends he's the mature male because he has a husband and child but he's the cause of the chaos most of the time

They have coordinated Halloween costumes
